Dušan Džamonja (Macedonian: Душан Џамоња, pronounced [duʃan d͡ʒamɔɲa]; January 31, 1928 – January 14, 2009) was a contemporary Croatian sculptor of Macedonian origin.
Džamonja's work shows a tendency towards technical and formative experiments, reducing form to the dynamic and intense shapes of symbolical meaning. This study of new forms led him to use new materials, especially steel and glass, in his sculptures.

Džamonja studied at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Zagreb under the professors Vanja Radauš, Frano Kršinić and Antun Augustinčić, all notable authors. He built ateliers in Zagreb in 1953, Vrsar, Istria (since 1970) and Brussels, Belgium (since 1987).

He was a recipient of numerous awards and is an academician with both Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He lived near his three ateliers in Zagreb, Vrsar and Brussels.

He died on January 14, 2009 in Zagreb, aged 80.

A Hopeless Dawn 1888The title of this painting comes from a passage by John Ruskin, which affirms that Christ is at the helm of every boat. The kneeling woman, comforted by her mother-in-law, realises that her husband is lost at sea, but the open Bible, altar-like table and print on the wall hint at the consolations of religion.

Sigur Rós es un grupo islandés de post-rock, con elementos de shoegazing y minimalismo. El nombre es islandés; se pronuncia ['sɪɣʏr rous'] en el Alfabeto Fonético Internacional y signífica "rosa de victoria".

Miembros
Sigur Rós estaba compuesto originalmente por Jón Þór Birgisson (Jónsi, guitarra y voz), Georg Hólm (Goggi, bajo) y Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (batería). Posteriormente en 1999 ingresó a la banda Kjartan Sveinsson (Kjarri, teclado) para la publicación de Ágætis byrjun. En 1999, Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson abandonó el grupo tras la grabación de Ágætis byrjun, siendo reemplazado por Orri Páll Dýrason (batería).

Jón Þór Birgisson (Jónsi), Georg Hólm y Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson formaron el grupo en Reykjavík, Islandia, en agosto de 1994. El nombre del grupo fue tomado de la hermana menor de Jónsi, llamada Sigurrós, la cual nació el mismo día. El grupo pronto ganó un contrato con la discográfica local, Bad Taste. En 1997, lanzaron Von (Esperanza) y en 1998 la colección de remezclas Von brigði (Vonbrigði significa en islandés "decepción", pero Von brigði significa "alteración de la esperanza"). En inglés, el álbum Von brigði es conocido usualmente por su nombre alternativo, "Recycle Bin", que significa Papelera de reciclaje.)

El reconocimiento internacional llegó en 1999 con el lanzamiento de Ágætis byrjun (Un buen comienzo), para lo cual el grupo integró a Kjartan Sveinsson.

En 2002, el anticipado álbum ( ) fue lanzado. Todas sus canciones fueron publicadas sin título, siendo posteriormente publicados sus nombres en el sitio web oficial. Todas las canciones son cantadas completamente en un lenguaje fonético improvisado llamado "vonlenska" (de von, 'esperanza' e íslenska, 'islandés'), creado por Jón Þór Birgisson, que integra sonidos del idioma islandés. La razón es que el oyente debe interpretar su propio significado de las letras, las cuales puede escribir en las páginas blancas que trae el libreto del álbum.

En octubre de 2003, Sigur Rós junto con Radiohead compusieron música para la pieza de danza de Merce Cunningham, llamada Split Sides; las tres canciones de Sigur Rós fueron llamadas Ba Ba/Ti Ki/Di Do y fueron lanzadas en marzo de 2004. En octubre de 2004, el primer álbum de 1997, Von fue puesto finalmente en venta en Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido. Su último álbum, Takk... (Gracias...), fue lanzado el 3 de septiembre de 2005, con la descarga legal de su primer sencillo, Glósóli, publicado el 15 de agosto.
